Server DNS could not be found

Many times while surfing the internet on a browser like chrome we get the error - 'Server dns could not be found' and our internet stops working. What's the cause behind it and how to solve this problem?

First let us understand what is Server DNS. DNS full form is Domain name system and it the system used to convert a website name/address to its IP address. On Internet, every computer/device communicates using an addressing system known as IP address, but consists of numbers and difficult to remember. To make it easier, we have create aliases like www.google.com or www.facebook.com, etc. It is the responsibility of DNS server to convert these aliases to IP addresses that are used to communicate on internet.

Server dns could not be found

This error message means that your DNS server is not working or you are not able to communicate to your dns server. If that happens, you would no longer be able to convert website names (like www.google.com) to their ip address and hence not able to do anything on internet.

How to fix server dns problem?

Typically your dns server is provided by your internet service provider (ISP). If it is not working, you can raise a request with them to get it fixed.

Sometimes, the dns server provided by your ISP may be very bad and you go on facing this problem randomly. In such case, you can start using other dns servers. One option is to use google dns servers

Google dns servers are 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

To make your computer use them, follow following instructions:

• Go to Control Panel → Network and Internet → Network and Sharing Centre
• Click on Change Adapter settings.Right click on your connection icon (Wireless Network Connection or Local Area Connection) and select properties.
• Select Internet protocol version 4.
• Click on "Use the following DNS server address" and enter google dns server given above
